How To Turn Your Dreams Into Goals

Mindset

“If your dreams don’t scare you, they’re not big enough.”

Remember those early days as a kid? The time when no idea or dream was crazy enough. You could think of everything that you possibly could. As a kid you don’t care about being reasonable or not. You don’t care about what the other kids in the street think about your ideas.

Even better, they were just as crazy as you were. Together you could drift of in an endless imagination. Thinking and talking about the amazing things you would do as grownups. There were no limits to what you thought of was possible in life. Kids never think about how to put their ideas to practice.

By not thinking about how to execute their ideas they allow their brain to go wild. They keep expanding their dream into an even bigger and out of reach ideal for them. Kids can really go nuts with their imagination.

That’s the beauty of dreaming big. You allow yourself to go crazy beyond the limits you normally hold yourself to.

What’s holding you back?

When was the last time you let your mind go wild? The last time you didn’t instantly rationalize on your ideas? You probably can’t even remember that time. When people grow up they start to rationalize their thoughts. Every thought they have is being weighed on their perception of what is acceptable by their peer group.

All to prevent them from having thoughts that are too crazy and unrealistic according to the people close to them. Why that is you wonder? Because people are afraid of failure and afraid of not being loved.

By sharing their big dreams they have to be vulnerable to critics that don’t understand them. They want to avoid the denial of their own dreams by the people they care about. Afraid of standing out and being the weird one in the group, causing them to feel an outsider.

Your dream life

In order to start your journey to success you need to start dreaming big again. You need to get back to your childish thinking and letting your imagination flow. Get in a state where you are totally excited about your life and totally certain that anything is possible.

Image that you have all the resources you could ever need. Imagine that there are no limits to your abilities. That there is nothing that you can’t do or accomplish. Imagine that you could live the life you want, that you can be, do and have everything you ever could want. Start fantasizing about the amazing life you could live.

How does that life look like? How do you spend your days. What would you be doing. Where would you live. Who would be your friends, what characteristics do they have? Think about the amount of money that you would make, per month or year? The amount that you would have on your bank account?

Let your mind go crazy about the things you want for yourself in life. Start dreaming and don’t hold back on anything. You need to dream big to create a vision for your own life.

Action!

You’re going to create a vision for yourself for the long-term future. The clearer the picture in your head is the faster you’ll be moving towards achieving it. When you have a clear mental picture of where you want to be in your life, you become more motivated and positive about it. Your mind will start looking for opportunities how to get there.

Now it is time to get creative. Grab a pen and a piece paper and get ready to let your mind go wild.

First here is a great question that you should ask yourself over and over again to keep your dreaming activated:

What would you do if you were absolutely certain that you could not fail?

If it was totally guaranteed that any goal you would set for your life it would be achieved, no matter how big or small, for the short-term or long-term. What one big goal would you dream of if you knew you couldn’t fail?

Write this big dream of you down on the piece of paper in front of you. Make sure you write it down in the past tense, as if it was already achieved.

Take a step back

Now we’re going to have a moment to enjoy this feeling of accomplished when you read your dream. Take a step back from your flowing fantasies and visualize how your dream life looks like and feel it as if it was already reality.

From that moment in time where you live your dream life start looking back to the time before you achieved it all.

What were the things you did to get there? What would you have changed in your life, what steps would you have taken in order to make it happen? Who of your current friends are still there with you, who have been left behind?

Write all these actions you would have taken down below your dream goal.

Your Dream-list

This was a great first step of finding your dreams and letting your imagination start flowing again.

Now its time to really start building your dream-list!

On the piece of paper you now have in front of you, start writing everything down that you can possibly think of wanting in your life. Not only your biggest dream, but all the stuff you can think of you want to have or have achieved in your life. Now you can really let your fantasy go wild.

No matter how big the list will become, by writing it down you have started your journey into achieving them. When you will review your dreams regularly you’ll start looking for possibilities to make them real.

Your new tasks

That is exactly the next step you’re going to take from now on. Your actions following this exercise will be:

– Every day your start to visualize your biggest dream goal. Get in the feeling of already being there, focus on the things you’d be doing. Make it as real as possible in your mind.

– Once every week, or at least every two weeks, you’re going to review your complete dream-list. Take a moment of your time to read through your dreams.

It is important to keep yourself focused on your dreams. In the following steps you’re going to get more practical about how to get there, but you always need to remember your end goal. What is the reason you started in the first place. What is your why behind your actions.

You need a dream if you want to make a dream come true!
